Kelly’s Story – New Child Support Formula Case 11

highway to nowhere

This is our eleventh case study.

This is from Kelly:

Kelly – Please tell us about your situation?

I have two boys who are 9 and 10 to my ex and a daughter nearly 3 to my fiancé.

My ex is currently on supervised contact only due to a court decision due to him being caught my his mum shooting up while having the kids in his care but is seeking an interim order.

My ex is a business owner in transport. Last year paying 12k this next year paying $800 for the whole year.

Not that hes paying the full current monthly payments, hes on his fourth enforcement, has a huge arreas debt in child support and tax/gst.

I must add before this last year i was getting $46.50 a month. Only due to doing an administrative review this year it was raised and back dated.

We live in the country so we have high travel costs for medical, dental and sports also for other general stuff including my work, my daughters daycare and groceries.

My current partner is a truck driver and isn’t on big money.

I have a small business that doesn’t give me a wage. (Just something to keep me sane.)

.

How much did you receive on the old formula?

$998.80 per month

On the NEW formula what will that amount be per month?

$74.40 per month

Are you happy with the new formula?

No

What are your main reasons for not being happy with it?

Because I believe that the child support should be set per child so that its fair for all, the paying parents, the receiving parents, the dodgy, disabled and the dolebludgers.

It would be easy for everyone to understand. Also the government shouldn’t have to top up for those who cant or wont pay.

If child support was a set amount per child split between both parents for the basic necessities, what do you think is a fair amount per month per child?

$420

What else would you like to say?

I wish the government could actually show us child support families how it should be. The government is in enough debt and has spent enough money on this change that its going to be a fail.

By the time we all put in our admin reviews theres going to be major delays, over worked ird employees, and it will create a higher child poverty rate possibly suicide and bankruptcy.

The government should have changed it to a set amount altered the FTC to cover the split families and joint families.

And spend the rest on recovering the 2.6 billion dollar debt to pay out whats owed and to have those forever penalties paid.

I dont think this change is worth the 163 million the government spent.

.

  1. I agree too. My husband pays his ex close to 1800NZD a month. We have 4 children and we are now struggling. He works so hard to provide, for what?

  2. I agree $420 is a fair amount for 1 child – I’m paying $1100 a month for 1 and I have 3 children with my wife to support. Their allowance is $361 per child.
Crazy system, thanks to the Australian Child Support System which now appears to mirror the NZ system dollar for dollar.
