We Can Not Afford To Pay This Amount – Case 60

Taranaki

This is case study number 60

This is Rose’s Story:

Rose – Tell us about what is going on with your situation?

My Husband and I have 3 children together and we also have 2 of my nephews in our care.

My husband has another daughter from a previous relationship.

He earns $60 000 a year when he works alot of over time and I am a stay at home mum.

We use to pay $387 a month and now we have to pay $789 a month because my 2 nephews are not his biological children but yet they live off hubbys pay check and we both are their legal guardians.

It is hard we tried to do the right thing by taking on these 2 boys that needed a home yet it feels like we are being punished for it.

.

IRD also need a copy of our sons birth certificate for some reason.

He was under us as a dependant since 2009 now all of a sudden for some crazy reason he isn’t.

How much did you pay on the old formula?

$387

On the NEW formula what will that amount be per month?

$789

Are you happy with the new formula?

No

What are your main reasons for being not happy with it?

We can not afford to pay this amount.

If child support was a set amount per child split between both parents for the basic necessities, what do you think is a fair amount per month per child?

$700

What else would you like to say?

What the heck is New Zealand up to?

Rose – thank you so much for sharing your story with us.
